What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is increasing in popularity and its no wonder why.  Laser skin resurfacing often results in faster recovery times than other similar procedures.

How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?

As one of the most exciting and innovative scientific achievements to date, laser technology is utilized throughout the healthcare community. Dr. Schalit uses one of the newest lasers to treat sun-damaged skin, facial wrinkles, and scars in a procedure called laser skin resurfacing with the Sciton Erbium laser.

Laser resurfacing can be used as an alternative to a chemical peel and the dermabrasion procedure. The benefits of using this technique are less pain and faster recovery time. In most cases, it is less costly.

Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Skin Resurfacing?

The laser is used to reduce wrinkles, acne scars, and other minor skin imperfections, especially around the mouth and eyes. It can improve sun-damaged and acne scarred skin problems that often cause concern to both men and women.*

How Long Does a Typical Treatment Take?

A typical treatment takes about 30 to 45 minutes to perform. During this treatment, light IV sedation is given to ensure that you are comfortable throughout the procedure. The area is cleansed and draped. Dr. Schalit directs the laser beam toward your skin imperfections. The laser quickly and accurately vaporizes and tightens the outermost layers of skin.

What Results Will I See?*

In most cases, only one treatment is needed. The initial redness fades in a few weeks to a light pink, which can be camouflaged with cosmetics. The discoloration usually disappears in 1-2 months. The goal of laser resurfacing is to enhance facial appearance and tighten facial skin.

Results of the surgery depend on many factors such as the size, shape, and location of the imperfection and the patient’s heredity, age and general skin condition.*

Is There Any Downtime?

Treatment area will need to be protected from the sun with large brim hats and glasses as the treated skin will be particularly sensitive to the sun’s UV rays for the first 1-2 weeks. For optimal results, it is recommended to use medical grade skin care products such as the SkinMedica line to maintain skin post laser treatment.
