Purpose of Each Procedure
The purpose of a facelift is to make your facial appearance more youthful by reducing sagging skin and deep wrinkles. The goal is to eliminate jowling and contour the jawline giving a smoother appearance.
The purpose of a neck lift is to change the shape of the neck by tightening it and drawing it into the chin. You can combine a neck lift with a facelift or get the surgery by itself. However, many patients come to Dr. Schalit for neck lifts only, as the neck tends to age faster than the rest of the face.
Dr. Schalit performs a facelift by making an incision from the temple or the hairline to just behind the ear. He then tightens sagging muscles and connective tissues before removing excess skin and fixing it into a new position with sutures.
Neck lifts are different. Here, Dr. Schalit creates an incision under the chin to access the neck muscles. He then manipulates their shape, giving your neckline a more defined and youthful appearance before suturing it up.
Facelifts can make some patients look between five and ten years younger. However, recovery takes between a week to ten days, after which you can begin resuming some normal activities. Bruising usually takes around two weeks to subside while the full effects typically take 6 to 9 months to become apparent.
Neck lifts require one to two weeks of recovery. You can then resume your normal exercise routines three to four weeks after surgery.
