As you age, you may face loose, hanging skin and accumulate fat under your chin. If you are bothered by the appearance of your neck, a neck lift may be a great option. It can help you achieve a youthful neckline by getting rid of excess fat under your chin, tightening lax muscles, and removing lax skin. If you believe you may benefit from a neck lift but are unsure of the recovery time associated with it, keep reading.
During neck lift surgery, Dr. Schalit will make incisions under the chin and/or behind the ears. Then, he will tighten the platysma muscle ( a band of tissue found in the chest, neck, and facial area) and sew it together. Next, he’ll trim away any excess skin and fat and reposition and secure it with sutures. The treatment will end when he closes the incisions. Most neck lifts take about four hours to perform.
What is Neck Lift Recovery Like?
After a neck lift, you may experience a bit of discomfort that can be easily alleviated with prescription pain medication. Dr. Schalit will encourage you to keep your head still and elevated for a few days after a neck lift to reduce swelling. In addition, he’ll ask that you relax and take it easy for the first week after the procedure.
While your face may appear bruised or puffy for the first few days after the surgery, rest assured that this is completely normal and will subside in a few weeks. You may wear makeup to help you feel more confident while you’re bruising heals. About five days after your neck lift, Dr. Schalit will remove most of your stitches.
If your job does not require vigorous physical activity, you will likely be able to resume work in about ten days after the procedure. In the event you work in a profession that requires intense physical activity, you may require more time off.
Although light exercise such as slow walking may be performed after the anesthesia wears off, heavy exercise such as running and heavy lifting should not be avoided until at least two weeks after the surgery.
