Our skin loses its natural elasticity as we age, causing the eyelids to droop and sag. The sagging may result in slight vision impairment, significant facial aging, and the appearance of being tired all the time. Dr. Schalit performs upper and lower blepharoplasty to lessen signs of aging and to return your face to its vibrant self.

What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty helps men and women look more alert and awake by removing excess skin, tissue, and fat from the eyelids. Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid lifts, may be performed on the upper and lower eyelids to reduce signs of aging, improve impaired vision from loose skin, and remove bags under the eyes.

How Long Is Recovery from Eyelid Lifts?

Most people can return to normal activities between seven and ten days after eyelid lift surgery. Some people may experience some swelling for longer. The timeline for recovery tends to be:

Recovery Day One

You will need a ride home after eyelid lift surgery. You may experience some soreness and discomfort, along with swelling and blurring of vision. It is essential to keep your head elevated, even while sleeping. Ice packs or cold compresses may help with any swelling or discomfort. Pain medications should be kept within arm’s reach.

Recovery Days 2-7

The swelling, pain, and bruising will progressively decrease as the week ends. You will not want to do anything strenuous that may hinder your healing, including working out, jogging, or doing yoga.

This time is meant for you to relax and try not to strain your eyes too much. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, you may have to refrain from wearing them until Dr. Schalit gives the green light.

Recovery Week 2-4

You will return to your everyday life by this point. You may start light workouts at Dr. Schalit’s discretion, although the exercise may temporarily increase swelling for a few hours afterward.

During your blepharoplasty recovery, it is crucial to avoid direct sun exposure to the eyes and to rest as needed. Your body will require some time to recover, as such with all surgeries. Scars may take up to three months to lose their redness, but any scarring will be inconspicuous.

Results of Blepharoplasty

You will begin seeing results about two to four weeks after surgery, with final results appearing in one to two months. Many patients report significantly improving their appearance, looking more alert, awake, and youthful. As you age, the wrinkling may return, but bags under the eyes will not because the fat pads have been removed.

Blepharoplasty does not resolve crow’s feet or wrinkles on the outer eyes or forehead. Laser resurfacing may be added to eyelid lifts to help with these conditions.
