Am I a Candidate for Otoplasty?
Otoplasty is a surgical procedure. Therefore, patients must not have any life-threatening illnesses or be in poor health before they undergo the operation. In addition, they must not have any chronic ear infections that surgery could make worse.
Otoplasty is not suitable for children under the age of five. That’s because the cartilage in the ear is still developing and growing and hasn’t reached full size.
Patients should also be prepared to follow a set of instructions. Successful otoplasty requires following all of the aftercare procedures, including ensuring that you keep your surgery covered in a protective bandage for support. Your ear will likely feel uncomfortable and itchy while it recovers. It is critical that you do not touch it in this phase as it may impede the healing process. Always take any medications Dr. Schalit prescribes or recommends.
