How Long Does Swelling Last After an Eyelid Lift?
Most patients feel comfortable being in public after 10-14 days; however, as with any surgery, some patients may experience mild swelling for several months. You may experience some fluctuation with the swelling, with it being most noticeable in the morning.
How Can I Reduce Swelling After an Eyelid Lift?
There are a few methods to safely reduce swelling after surgery. Sleeping with your head elevated reduces swelling, particularly in the morning. Furthermore, avoiding anything that may strain your eyes, such as direct sunlight and rubbing your eyes, can significantly benefit your recovery.
Ice packs and cold compresses also help reduce swelling. We recommend using the ice packs for around 10 minutes every hour on the first night and four to five times a day afterward. Do not take anti-inflammatory medications unless Dr. Schalit has approved them. Certain medications can increase the risk of bleeding and can hinder your recovery.
What Types of Blepharoplasty Does Dr. Schalit Offer?
Dr. Schalit tailors your eyelid lift based on your eye shape and personal goals. The two main procedures are:
Traditional
An incision is made on the crease between the eyelid and the temple bone. The incision is not noticeable when the eyelid is open. This method is more common in upper eyelid lifts.
Transconjunctival
This newer technique makes an incision inside the lower eyelid to remove the fat pads. This method is common in lower eyelid lifts.

How Long Do Results Last After an Eyelid Lift?
Most patients love the results of their eyelid lifts, reporting looking younger and more awake. In some instances, patients may notice improved eyesight due to the sagging skin no longer blocking peripheral vision.
While blepharoplasty can undo signs of aging to take years off your appearance, it cannot stop natural aging from continuing. Most patients enjoy the results of upper eyelid lifts for 5-7 years and lower eyelid lifts indefinitely.
Am I a Candidate for Blepharoplasty?
If you struggle with sagging eyelids and undereye bags and are a healthy non-smoker, you may be an excellent candidate for an eyelid lift. Before your surgery, Dr. Schalit will discuss your medical history, the medicines you’re taking, past procedures, and goals. If you smoke, you must quit at least two weeks before your eyelid lift.
