As you age, you may notice your lips change in size and shape. The red portion of your lip or the vermillion may decrease in height while the skin covered portion of your upper lip elongates. This can lead to an older looking appearance and take away from your confidence.
If you wish you had a wider smile with increased teeth show, you may be a good candidate for a lip lift. A lip lift may also be a good option if your upper lips vermilion border is elongated. It can give you the movie star pout you’ve always wanted. If you’re wondering how a lip lift is performed as well as how long it takes, keep reading.
The Lip Lift Procedure
On the day of your procedure, you should not wear any makeup and make sure your hair has been washed and contains no product. When it’s time for the surgery, Dr. Schalit will make a precise incision on the base of your nose and follow your natural creases.
Then, he’ll pull your upper lip to shorten the length between the cupids bow and vermilion border, remove any excess tissue, and carefully place sutures to close. In most cases, this process is performed under local anesthesia but can be under IV sedation and takes about one hour to complete.
Since aging will not cause the lips to return to their natural position after a lip lift, you can expect your upper lift to remain lush once you’ve undergone this procedure.

Recovering From a Lip Lift
After a lip lift, you may face minor swelling for a few days. You can use ice or cold compresses to reduce the swelling. Also, Dr. Schalit may prescribe pain medication if necessary. Seven days after your surgery you can expect your sutures to be removed.
The healing process typically takes anywhere between six and 12 weeks. If you have a lighter skin tone and thinner lips, you’ll likely heal faster than a patient with darker skin and thicker lips.
Benefits of a Lip Lift
With a lip lift, you can achieve a more feminine facial appearance. If you are bothered by thin, flat lips and/or long spaces between your nose and upper lip, and teeth that do not show when you smile, you will likely love the results of a lip lift.
I LOVE my new lips! Thanks to Dr. Schalit’s artistry, I have lips that are fuller and more supple-looking without appearing overdone. I would trust my face to no one else!
