How Does Botox® Work?
Botox® contains botulinum toxin, a neurotoxin that affects the communication between muscles and nerves. While it causes no harm, it blocks the nerve from sending signals that cause muscles to contract. When facial muscles contract, they pull on the skin above them. Silencing these muscle contractions lets wrinkles relax and smooth away.
Botox® has been approved to treat crow’s feet around the eyes, lines between the brows, and forehead wrinkles. Used in medicine for decades, it has an excellent safety record, and when it wears off, the muscles and nerves will work normally.
How is Botox® Administered?
Dr. Schalit will inject Botox® directly into the facial muscles causing lines and wrinkles. The injections can be given in one area of the face, or several areas can be treated in one session. Botox® works only where injected, so your other facial muscles keep working to make sure you look natural and relaxed.
Several Botox® injections will be given in the treatment area. In general, three injections will treat the muscles causing crow’s feet, while those on the forehead and between the eyebrows usually require five injections.

What Results Will I See With Botox®?
You will see the lines and wrinkles in the treated area begin to relax after a few days, with full results seen after about 30 days. This gives the botulinum toxin time to act on the nerves and tell them to stop sending signals. Results last three to four months.
Without the tugging effect of the facial muscles, your skin in the treated area will become smoother and more even, and you will look more relaxed and youthful. Botox® addresses some of the deepest and most challenging lines and wrinkles that form on the face. At the same time, it leaves all your other facial muscles untouched so you can keep smiling and showing all your normal expressions.
Is There Any Downtime With Botox®?
You will not need any downtime with Botox®. You might feel some minor soreness or see some bruising in the area, but this will go away in a short time.
Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?
Most people can receive Botox®. It works very safely and stays in the area of the injection. You should let your provider know if you have ever had a reaction to any botulinum toxin product.
