A slim neck and defined jawline are some of the many features we associate with youthful attractiveness. For many people, the neck and lower face are also among the first places to show signs of aging. If you’re starting to dislike the sagging you see in the mirror, you might wonder if it’s time for a neck lift.

What is a Neck Lift?

A neck lift, or platysmaplasty, is a procedure that addresses loose, drooping skin around the neck and chin. The cheeks and neck often sag with age, leading to jowls, an undefined jawline, submental fullness (double chin), neck banding, and “turkey waddle.” A neck lift is usually performed simultaneously with a facelift for comprehensive, natural-looking rejuvenation.

Dr. Schalit can tailor your procedure to your specific needs and facial structure. Depending on the extent of your procedure, it will likely take two to four hours to perform under general anesthesia. Dr. Schalit makes a discreet incision under your chin to lift and tighten your neck muscles.

*Individual results may vary.

Best Age to Get a Neck Lift

Since everyone ages differently, the best age for a neck lift varies for each person. Younger patients with only mild aging concerns in the neck area may want to try non-surgical treatments, such as Botox® for neck bands and Kybella® for a double chin.

A surgical neck lift is often best for patients in their 40s or 50s with excess skin, sagging, and platysma muscle laxity. Older patients may also benefit from a neck lift. However, the results may not last quite as long, and they may experience further sagging after a few years.

What to Expect After a Neck Lift

You should expect swelling, bruising, and tenderness after your neck lift. Dr. Schalit will give you instructions for using pain medication and ice packs to manage discomfort and swelling. You’ll likely need to return to our office in approximately one week to have your sutures removed. Most patients resume their usual activities in one to two weeks

It can take a few months for all swelling to subside, but you’ll likely look and feel back to normal within a month. You can resume exercise around this time. You will be able to evaluate the final results of your neck lift after several months.

How Long Does a Neck Lift Last?

One of the factors to consider when deciding the best age to get a neck lift is how long it will last. Since the procedure tightens and lifts the skin and underlying muscles, it has long-lasting effects. It can’t stop the aging process, however. A neck lift lasts a decade or more for most people. Old patients’ results typically don’t last as long.

Before I found it Dr. Schalit I had procedures done to my neck by someone else and those results were horrible I was depressed almost 3 years A friend referred me to him and I am so thankful that I went to the consultation one of the things I appreciated the most was that he actually listened to everything I said all the things that bothered me any understood what I had gone through and that meant a lot I know he had a lot of fixing he needed to do to give me the results I was looking for I had my neck and my Jawline lifted and my eyelids done My results are better then I ever expected my recovery went extremely well my healing went great it is just now a month I included a before and after it is incredible what he did I am so grateful and thankful he literally changed my life I’m so much happierEvery appointment I’ve gone to after the nurses there have been so kind especially Sylvia who Talk to me alot before my surgery too.
