About Scar Revision

Many variables can affect the severity of scarring. These include the size and depth of the wound, the blood supply to the area, the thickness and color of your skin, and the direction of the scar. How much the appearance of a scar bothers you is, of course, a personal matter. While no scar can be removed completely, Dr. Schalit can often improve the appearance of a scar, making it less obvious through the injection or application of certain steroid medications or through surgical procedures known as scar revision.*

Learn More About Scar Revision

Scar Revision Procedure
Scar revision can be done in several ways; however, the most common way is via laser skin resurfacing, which helps fade the appearance of the scar. The right scar revision procedure for you will be determined by the scar’s size, location, and age in question.

Recovery After Scar Revision

There is usually very little post-op scar revision care involved, as this is a non-surgical treatment. However, it’s recommended that you cover and protect the treated scar from the sun, as UV rays can affect the scar’s healing time.

Typical Results After Scar Revision

You should begin to see minimized wrinkles and fine lines about 3 to 7 days after your treatment—full effect by one week. Results can last anywhere from 3 to 4 months but vary per patient.

Scar revision is an option for both men and women of any age. So if you are unhappy or self-conscious because of a scar on your face, you may be a good candidate for this procedure. The best candidates are those who are non-smokers, who do not have acne or any other skin disease in the treatment area, and who have realistic expectations about their outcome.
